Abstract

5G has been widely deployed, and more key technologies of 5G are in the process of being standardized. It plays an important role in promoting the aspects of the internet of vehicles, smart homes, etc. However, due to its limitations, 5G technology cannot meet the technical requirements of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), smart industry, intelligent traffic system (ITS), and other new application scenarios in the 2030s. A large number of technology researches and standard studies about 6G have also been proposed. The potential technologies of 6G, such as reflecting surface (IRS) and Terahertz (THz), are proposed to solve the current constraints of 5G. This comprehensive study will explain the evolution process of wireless communication networks from the first to the sixth generation and compare the key performance indicators between 4G, 5Gand 6G. Moreover, we will introduce some main application scenarios of 5G and 6G and some key technologies of 5G and 6G.
