Editorial: Crystal Archives of Magmatic Processes

Abstract

This Research Topic aims to bring new insights into our understanding of how crystal archives can be used to reconstruct the dynamics of magmatic systems. Thirteen original research articles exploit the crystal-eye to magmatic processes by applying novel petrological and geochemical approaches to a range of natural and experimental case studies that access different portions of magma plumbing systems (Figure The articles in this Research Topic demonstrate how overcoming the challenges related to the study of crystal archives can open new opportunities for understanding otherwise cryptic magma pathways from source to eruption.
