Abstract

In this paper, the performance of an uplink visible light communication (VLC) system with intelligent reflecting mirror (IRM) is analyzed. It is shown for the first time in literature that the high uplink data rates in VLC can be ensured without the unpleasant eye irradiance problem with the application of IRM. When compared with a counterpart system without IRM, numerical and synthetic results for the proposed IRM-aided VLC system indicate that the required transmit power is lowered to such an extent that reliable communication is possible without the eye irradiance problem. In addition, the IRM significantly improves the coverage area of the uplink transmitter. Extensive numerical results indicate that uplink VLC is feasible when an IRM is used.
