Abstract
The effect of various heat-treatment conditions on the mechanical properties of Mg–Y–Gd–Zr alloy additionally alloyed with samarium is studied. The alloy is designed in the Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, Russian Academy of Sciences (IMET RAS). Advantages of the new alloy as compared to the available IMV7-1 alloy (of the Mg–Y–Gd–Zr system) are demonstrated, and the optimum heat treatment conditions for the new alloy are determined.
