Clinical tissue biomarker digital image analysis: A review of current applications

Abstract
Tissue biomarkers are commonly used in clinical practice for disease diagnosis, prognosis and targeted therapies. Accurate and reliable assessment of these biomarkers is essential for the quality of precision medicine. The application of digital image analysis has accordingly become an indispensable enabler for quantitative and reproducible evaluation. This article reviews current applications of digital image analysis for clinical tissue biomarkers, and the published guidelines for their adoption in routine clinical practice.
