Abstract

Collaboration between data scientists and domain experts is necessary for the success of healthcare machine learning projects. Our present concern is the relationship between data scientists and clinicians, which often faces tensions commonly encountered by multidisciplinary teams. It is important to be able to prevent these differences from creating divisions that can derail a project. In this paper, we focus on understanding the interplay between these roles and where conflict can arise due to communication issues, varying incentives, and differing perspectives.
