Abstract
Metal–ligand bonds in M(cAAC Dip ) 2 (M = Be, Mg) are best described with dative bonds between neutral ligands L⇄M⇄L but not with charged species L(−1)→E(+2)←L(−1) as previously stated. The oxidation state of the metals is zero but not +2.
