Construction of Spironaphthalenones via Gold-Catalyzed Intramolecular Dearomatization Reaction of β-Naphthol Derivatives

Abstract
A gold-catalyzed dearomatization reaction of β-naphthol derivatives via intramolecular hydroalkylation of alkynes is described. In the presence of 5 mol % Au complex, various spironaphthalenones were obtained from α-tethered alkyne β-naphthols in good to excellent yields (76-99%) under open-flask conditions.
