Abstract

Chaotic laser is considered as a novel signal source and extensively applied in the areas of secure communication, random number generation, optical sensing. This review article provides an overview of our recent progresses in high-performance chaos generation and its unique measurement applications. Several creative methods underpinning chaos optimization, including bandwidth enhancement, time delay signature suppression, and photonic integration, are discussed and experimentally verified respectively. Then the long-range high-resolution measurement application of chaotic Brillion optical correlation-domain analysis and chaos optical time-domain reflectometer are summarized. Avenues for future research and development of chaotic laser and chaos measurement technology are also prospected.
