Comparison of Different Photovoltaic Perturb and Observe Algorithms for Drift Avoidance in Fluctuating Irradiance Conditions
Jose Miguel Riquelme-Dominguez, Sergio Martínez
Abstract
Fluctuating solar irradiance conditions constitute a challenge for efficient photovoltaic energy generation. The objective of this paper is to analyze the performance, in these conditions, of three known Perturb and Observe algorithms: Conventional Perturb and Observe, Drift-Free Modified Perturb and Observe, and Improved MPPT algorithm for rapidly changing environmental conditions. To contrast the adequacy of all of these algorithms, a scenario with real irradiance data is considered, focusing on the MPPT Drift phenomenon. Simulation results reveal that the Improved MPPT algorithm for rapidly changing environmental conditions performs better under these circumstances.
