Abstract
• We conducted two replication attempts of the cross-norm effect. • The overall and conditional strength of the cross-norm effect was further assessed in a meta-analysis. • Results showed conditional support for a weak, yet statistically significant cross-norm effect. • In line with the focus theory of normative conduct, we propose that salience might moderate the cross-norm effect.
