Abstract
A broadband adaptive waveguide high-power microwave (HPM) protector based on double-layer structure and the loading of p-i-n diodes is proposed in this letter. With the coupling effect between the two layers, the adaptive protection is realized by the protector in a wide frequency range. A prototype is designed in the WR430 waveguide and the equivalent circuit of the protector is carried out to explain the working mechanism. The simulated results show that low power signal can propagate through the protector with insertion loss less than 0.7 dB in the whole working band of WR430 waveguide. Once the input power exceeds the protection threshold of the protector, the signal can be attenuated by more than 13.5 dB. The experimental sample is fabricated and the measurement is performed. The measured results well demonstrate the adaptive protection performance of the protector from 1.72 to 2.61 GHz.
