Abstract
Food protein–induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a potentially severe and poorly understood type of food allergy. Little is known about its pathophysiology and no diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers exist. Also, “it does not look like an allergy” and awareness among health care professionals is poor, which hinders prompt diagnosis and early access to appropriate care. The International FPIES Association as well as experts highlighted this lack of awareness as one of the key unmet needs nearly a decade ago.
