Abstract
The authors consider two prototypical imaging problems: the optimal estimation of the separation between two incoherent point sources and the discrimination between one and two point sources of equal luminosity. The impact of misalignment on the precision in estimating the sources' separation as well as on the error in discriminating multiple sources is discussed.
