Critical Digital Pedagogy
Jae-Cheon Koh
Abstract
Critical digital pedagogy (CDP) is an emerging field that focuses on the intersection of technology, education, and social justice. It is a method of teaching that centers on community and collaboration and requires invention to reimagine the ways that communication and collaboration happen across cultural and political boundaries. In a world where technology is increasingly ubiquitous, CDP is more important than ever. It is a way to ensure that technology is used in a way that is ethical, equitable, and just. It is a way to empower students and teachers to take control of their own learning, and to create a more just and equitable society. This chapter delves deeper into the realm of CDP, inviting educators, administrators, and scholars to explore the dynamic intersection between critical pedagogy and digital technologies. Envisioned as a compass, this chapter sets out to steer readers through the background and evolution of CDP, understanding the theoretical underpinnings, looking at the role of digital AI literacy in CDP, followed by exploring how to design learner-centered digital environments, before addressing ethical dilemmas in CDP, and promoting social justice through digital activism before looking at the challenges and future directions.
