Abstract

Pentafluorosulfanylation (−SF 5 ) has become an increasingly valuable strategy in modern synthetic chemistry because of the distinct electronic and lipophilic properties of the pentafluorosulfanyl group. Recognized as a bioisostere of the −CF 3 and t Bu groups, it has attracted considerable interest in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and materials science applications. Recent progress in pentafluorosulfanylation has led to the development of innovative approaches, facilitating the efficient incorporation of −SF 5 into diverse molecular frameworks. This review explores key advancements while highlighting emerging applications. The continuous evolution of −SF 5 chemistry is expected to drive further innovation in drug discovery, functional materials, and beyond.
