Abstract
Abstract Desalination brine is a byproduct of the desalination process that poses significant environmental and economic challenges. However, it also presents an opportunity for resource recovery and brine valorization. This mini review explores the management and valorization of desalination brine, focusing on metal recovery, CO 2 sequestration, and energy generation. Key advancements in brine mining technologies, their feasibility, and economic considerations are discussed. The potential of integrating desalination brine mining into a circular economy model is highlighted. It underscores the urgency of rethinking brine management, advocating integrated approaches that balance water security with resource efficiency in a water-constrained world.
