Abstract
Abstract Insect ecology is the study of how insects interact with the environment. The environment consists of both physical characteristics (abiotic) and other organisms (biotic). Insects are natural components of forests and perform a variety of essential functions that help maintain forests as ecosystems. As consumers of forest products, people sometimes compete with insects for forest resources.
