Pre-existing fiber optic cables deployed in 4 nearby wells were used for simultaneous recording of seismic signals generated by a source vessel for a concurrent 4D ocean bottom node (OBN) campaign. Imaging using multi-well DAS data illuminates a significantly larger area with the use of free-surface multiples filling in the illumination gaps between wells, both laterally and vertically, and results in an expanded imaging area of approximately 9 square miles around the platforms. Analysis reveals that, despite the inherently low signal-to-noise ratio and single-component nature of DAS VSP, innovative processing and imaging enabled us to produce a 3D DAS image of superior quality from multi-well VSPs. Analysis also reveals that by combining primaries and multiples from several nearby wells, we can achieve a cost-effective DAS VSP image very comparable to more costly OBN seismic data.Presentation Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2020Session Start Time: 8:30 AMPresentation Time: 9:20 AMLocation: 360DPresentation Type: OralKeywords: vertical seismic profile (VSP), DAS (distributed acoustic sensors), imagingPermalink: https://doi.org/10.1190/segam2020-3426032.1FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited byReferences29 September 2022Distributed acoustic sensing of long subsea tie-backsGlenn A.
