Abstract

The present work deals with Mechanical erosion and permeation behaviour of Plasma Nitriding over manet steel. Manet steel is most commonly used in Automobile component in mass production. The surface modification of steel is to improve the hardness and other mechanical properties. Plasma Nitriding Surface Treatment is made to achieve superior mechanical properties and resistance to permeation. The Plasma Nitriding process is made by a proper mixture of Nitrogen Gas at suitable duty cycle pressure and voltage with proper temperature to improve adhesion between coatings and nitriding steels. In this process, the plasma nitriding steels are subjected to the erosion test, SEM, surface roughness and oxidation test. The result will show good mechanical erosion and permeation behaviour is capable of increasing the life of the material.
