Abstract
It has been established that the complexation of the amidine derivative of nido-carborane 10‑PrNHC(Et)=HN-7,8-C2B9H11 with (1,5-cyclooctadiene)rhodium(I) chloride dimer [(COD)RhCl]2 in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of potassium tert-butoxide as a base leads to a new 18-electron rhodium(I) complex of the semi-sandwich type, in which the dicarbollide ligand chelates the metal by the η5-type. The structure of the resulting complex has been confirmed by NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopy, as well as mass spectrometry. The synthesized complex is the first example of a rhodium(I) complex based on a symmetrically substituted nido-carborane derivative with a boron–nitrogen bond.
