Abstract
Two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs) have exhibited great potential in membrane separation due to their tunable structure, low density, high stability, and large surface area and have attracted wide attention from both academia and industry. There is a significantly increased focus on research of 2D COF membrane separation recently, but there is still no literature that provides a comprehensive summary. Based on previous achievements, this article focuses on introducing the latest developments of 2D COF membranes in molecular and ion separation applications, analyzing the issues of 2D COF membrane separation in fundamental research, and providing recommended solutions. In addition, the challenges of 2D COF membranes in practical industrial separation operations are explored. This will provide development suggestions for preparing high-performance 2D COF membranes and promote their transition from laboratory to industry.
