Abstract
Urban mobility, a critical component of modern cities, faces challenges such as congestion, pollution, and inefficient resource allocation. Blockchain technology, with its decentralized, transparent, and secure nature, offers a promising solution to address these issues. This chapter delves into the potential applications of blockchain in transforming urban transportation systems. The authors explore how blockchain can revolutionize various aspects of urban mobility, including smart contracts for autonomous vehicles; enabling secure and efficient interactions between autonomous vehicles, infrastructure, and other stakeholders; decentralized mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platforms; facilitating seamless integration of diverse transportation modes into a unified platform; secure data management; protecting sensitive user data and vehicle information while enabling data sharing for improved decision-making, traceability, and verification; creating an immutable record of vehicle history and maintenance for enhanced trust and transparency; efficient payment systems.
