Abstract

With the continuous increase in population, the electricity demand is also increasing. Hence to meet this demand various methods were formulated, among which Distributed Generation (DG) is one of the method. Reduction in power losses and providing clean energy are advantages of installation of DG. Load flow methods of transmission system when applied to distribution system do not converge due to the fact that they have high R/X. In this paper load flow is carried out using a load flow method where two matrices namely Bus Injection to Branch Current (BIBC) and Branch Current to Bus Voltage (BCBV) are formulated. Genetic Algorithm (GA), a heuristic approach is used to determine the best location for DG placement. Load flow and GA are tested on 33 bus and 69 bus radial distribution system. The test results show the best location for the DG to be placed.
