Conference interpreting and new technologies

Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of relevant topics at the intersection of digital technologies and conference interpreting. In particular, it focuses on computer-aided interpreter training, computer-assisted interpreting tools, and on current and prospective developments in the area of artificial intelligence as supportive tool for human interpreters. Furthermore, a section will also introduce machine interpreting, a topic which is gaining growing interest among the public and professionals. Particular attention will be devoted to the state of the art of digital technologies, the results of empirical research, and the technological developments that can be expected in the years to come.
