Distribution of chlorhexidine resistance genes among Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates: the challenge of antiseptic resistance
Amira M. Sultan, Mohammad Ahmed
Abstract
Introduction: isolates. Methods: resistance genes were detected by multiplex PCR. Results: gene (OR=15.7, 95%CI: 3.4-12.1). Conclusions: genes were significantly higher among MRSA than MSSA isolates. About two thirds of chlorhexidine tolerant isolates displayed an MDR profile. To maintain chlorhexidine efficiency, biocidal stewardship program and ongoing surveillance are essential.
