Abstract
This study reviews the increasing utilization of bismuth in the biomedical field over the past two decades. Through bibliometric analysis, the research trends including publication growth, contributing countries/institutions, and co-occurring keywords are illuminated. Further exploration reveals the prominent biomedical applications of bismuth, including biological sensing, cancer imaging/therapy, antimicrobial treatment, radiation protection, and tissue engineering. Our review emphasizes ongoing optimization efforts in developing bismuth-based biomaterials and improving functionalization strategies to broaden their potential applications in biomedicine. Overall, this review provides insights into the latest developments and prospects for further promoting the development of bismuth in the biomedical field.
