Abstract
In this study, a novel bitumen modification by aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nano particle was investigated to enhance the performance of bitumen and hot mix asphalt (HMA). Nano particles were mixed with the bitumen in three percentages to improve the rutting and fatigue performance. After that, rheological tests were conducted on nano particle modified bitumen to determine rheological properties and rutting (G*/sinδ) was determined after RTFOT aging and fatigue behavior (G* · sinδ) was determined after PAV aging. Moisture susceptibility of HMA samples prepared using Al2O3 modified bitumen was determined. As a result, optimum nano particle content was chosen and the best performance was obtained by 7% Al2O3.
