Abstract
This paper reviews the advances of ultra-short-pulse fiber lasers. First, we will describe the fundamentals of passively and actively mode-locked fiber lasers, including temporal and spectral properties of mode-locked pulses, details of saturable absorbers, and pulse behaviors in the mode-locked laser cavities. Next, we will review the advances and challenges of mode locked fiber lasers toward stable and low-noise operation, high repetition rate, mid-IR range, dual-comb source, and tunability.
