Abstract

The “digital twin” concept was introduced in 2003 by (Grieves 2014) during a conference on product lifecycle management (PLM). Since then, the concept has been adopted by manufacturing industry and other domains (Kholopov et al. 2019). SNCF Reseau was interested in the digital twin concept to make a digital representation of all the infrastructure assets. This representation, called “Avatar”, mirrors the physical infrastructure with all the data needed by different asset managers and maintainers as well. With this new tool (AVATAR) all construction and work processes have changed, so we have moved from classic asset management, which takes a lot of time and resources, to intelligent asset management based on innovative digital twin tools. The aim of this article is to show how to update this digital twin through automatic object recognition in the point cloud, pictures and IoT tools.
