Abstract

-derived cells persist as terminally differentiated mesenchymal cells. These studies support a context-dependent "yin-yang" biology of tissue-resident mesenchymal progenitor cells, which possess an innate ability to limit injury expansion while also promoting fibrosis in an unfavorable environment.
