Abstract

The benefit of reinforcement in pavement sections can be quantified in terms of Layer Coefficient Ratio (LCR). In the present study, a series of Large-Scale Model Experiments (LSMEs) were conducted to quantify the LCRs considering unreinforced and geogrid-reinforced base layers overlying soft to stiff subgrades. Based on extensive LSME testing of reinforced base layers, LCRs were found to range from 1.01 to 1.33. The existing design philosophy for flexible pavements is extended to design geogrid-reinforced flexible pavements based on LCR values.
