The genetics of disease resistance in poultry.
Androniki Psifidi
Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of the advances in genetic, genomic and functional genomic studies of resistance in major infectious bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases in chickens. Section 3.5 then gives an example of how chicken resistance to Campylobacter colonization could be enhanced through genetics and breeding. At the end of the chapter, conclusions from this review will be highlighted, paving the way for future trends in research on genetics and genomics of disease resistance in poultry.
