Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with multidimensional involvement, characterized by decreased social interaction with deficiencies in communication through verbal and nonverbal language and inflexibility in behavior by presenting repetitive behaviors and restricted interests. Its etiopathogenesis and related risk factors are increasingly being better studied. This is a frequent clinical entity. Approximately 1 in 160 children have some degree of autism globally. However, it is rarely diagnosed, being identified until the appearance of its comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders such as anxiety or depression. Currently, there is no specific treatment for the nuclear symptoms of autism, however, there are different therapeutic and pharmacological options that improve the quality of life of its carriers.
