• Productivity-enhancing farm-level innovations and improvements, tend to generate positive income and employment effects, including for smallholders. • Mid- and downstream process innovations tend to generate even stronger positive employment and income impacts. • These benefits do not come automatically and require context-specific enabling conditions and supportive policies.
