Skeletal transformation of π-conjugated molecules for functional materials
Norihito Fukui
Abstract
Abstract A new guideline for the design of π-conjugated molecules with distinctive functions provides a foundational technology for creating innovative materials. The current design and synthesis of functional π-conjugated molecules predominantly focus on peripheral functionalization. The author has conducted exploratory research with the idea that the internal area of π-conjugated molecules presents a promising new frontier for material innovation. This account summarizes his achievements by categorizing 3 strategies: insertion, addition, and cleavage. These advancements demonstrate that the skeletal transformation of conjugated π-systems is effective in developing future materials.
