Abstract

This paper focuses on modeling and simulating a closed-loop controlled three-phase voltage source inverter-based E-STATCOM in a two-bus system. E-STATCOM is a well-known device used to boost the voltage of buses in two-bus systems with low voltage. Open-loop and closed-loop PI and MPC-controlled E-STATCOM systems are analyzed, and the results are compared. In addition, evaluation is carried out about the response parameters of the time domain, such as steady-state error and settling time. It has been observed that the PI-controlled system is slower than the E-STATCOM when using MPC. Grid-connected systems typically use both a PI controller and an MPC controller to achieve better voltage regulation.
