Abstract

3D printing is generally known as additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, or digital manufacturing technology. It is an emerging and versatile technology used for the processing of distinct engineering materials (metals, plastics, composite, ceramic) and even nontraditional materials (food, human tissue, food and bones). This technology produces parts by adding material in a layer fashion and provides several benefits such as part customisation, better mechanical properties, good dimensional accuracy and high surface finish. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the 3D-printing methods (FFF, SLS, SLA, IJP, SLM, EBM, etc.), trending applications in distinct sectors (automotive, food, construction, aerospace and medical), materials (metal and alloys, polymer, concrete, composites, ceramics etc.) and post-processing methods.
