Abstract

This paper describes a review of enhancing the power quality of a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) by using different control strategies. SAPF plays a significant role in mitigating reactive power and harmonic produced by nonlinear loads. The control strategy is used for eradicating the current harmonic which is injected into the power system because of the injection of nonlinear loads such as UPS, personal computers, TVs, variable-speed drives, etc. Researchers have already developed several control methods to boost electrical power quality. Different theories of current extraction techniques like the Modified Synchronously Rotating Reference Frame (Modified- SRF) method, Fuzzy logic controller method, Instantaneous real power theory and PID/PI/PD controller method are explained in this paper.
