Abstract
Smart Parking is an innovative intelligent Intrusion Detection System (IDS) designed for smart car parking in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) environments. In today's digital era, smart parking technologies leverage sensor data, cameras, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices to efficiently manage parking spaces. This research focuses on developing and implementing an indigenous IDS at the College of Engineering, Anna University, Guindy, Tamil Nadu, and India. The system prioritizes pre-booking and preference-based access for faculty members to optimize time management and mitigate issues related to improper parking, which can result in vehicle damage and safety hazards. One of the primary challenges addressed in this research is the prevention of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks, which occur when multiple users simultaneously request access to the same resources, leading to collisions and disruptions in parking operations. To address this challenge, a Machine Learning (ML)-driven IDS is proposed for DDoS attack detection in the smart parking system. This approach ensures a structured and systematic parking infrastructure within the educational institution. The proposed IDS was simulated and evaluated across various performance metrics. Results indicate that the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model achieved 97% accuracy in detecting DDoS attack.
