Abstract
In the present study, the effect of adhesion on axisymmetric contact problem for functionally graded material (FGM) coating-substrate system under the spherical indenter is considered. The linear multi-layered model is applied to model the functionally graded coating with arbitrarily varying material properties. The couple effect of adhesion parameter and gradient index is calculated based on the singular integral equation which can be solved by using the numerical method. The results show that the pull-off force, the contact region and the surface stress distribution between the indenter and surface of FGM coating are affected by adhesion parameter, gradient index and coating thickness.
