Abstract
Abstract The Silica (SiO2) and Titanium dioxide (TiO2) core-shell material is applicable in various technological fields. SiO2@TiO2 is used in photocatalysis, in self-cleaning materials, in surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and in the preparation of protective coatings etc. Especially, the number of reports on the use of this material as phtocatalyst for the degradation of harmful organic pollutants are noticeable. TiO2 as such, coated or immobilized on various materials or surfaces has proved to be an effective photocatalyst for the degradation of organic pollutants from various classes such as dyes, pharmaceuticals and polyaromatic hydrocarbons etc. This review provides a glimpse of latest important reports about the TiO2 material for photocatalytic applications with focus on SiO2@TiO2 core-shell material. The important observations are presented in tabular format and new developments are highlighted. The continued research on this material will reveal its potential applications in additional technological fields in future.
