Abstract

The present study was aimed to assess antifungal activity of methanol extract from phytoconstituents of Juncus maritimus leaves and stems against fourdermatophytes. Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton rubrum, Microsporum gypseum and Microsporum canis ssum. The methanol extract of the leaves and stem were subjected to Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopic (GC-MS) analysis. The results showed highest activity against all studied fungal ( dermatophytes), in Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Microsporum gypseum all three concentrations of extract (5, 10, 15 mg/ml) were given a results ( 0.00 )mm in the diameter of colonies, while in the Trichophyton rubrum the diameter of colonies were (1.60,1.25,1.5 mm) for concentrations (5, 10, 15 mg/ml) respectively.so in Microsporum canis we find the diameter of colonies were ( 2.5, 1.5,1.25 mm) in concentrations (5, 10, 15 mg/ml) respectively. The GC-MS analysis of Juncus maritimus leaves and stem showed the presence of (alpha-Terpineol acetate ; Terpinolene ; Methyl hexadecanoate; n-Hexadecanoic acid; (E)-Methyl octadec-9-enoate ; octadeca-9,12-dienoic acid ; Octadecanoic acid ; Butylbenzyl phthalate ; n-Pentacosane ; n-Propyl 11-octadecenoate; Glyceryl tridodecanoate Cyclotriacontane) in high concentrations and many of the bioactive compounds such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, phenanthrenes, terpenes, sterols, coumarins, stilbenes, and carotenes methanol extract from the Juncus maritimus Linn is highly valuable in medicinal usage and have fewer side effects.and the extract showed highest activity against all studied fungal ( dermatophytes), all three concentrations of extract (5, 10, 15 mg/ml) were appeared a results ( 0.00 ) in the diameter of colonies in Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Microsporum gypseum, while in the Trichophytonrubrum the diameter of colonies were (1.60, 1.25,1.5 mm) in concentrations (5, 10, 15 mg/ml) respectively.while in Microsporum canis we find the diameter of colonies were (2.5, 1.5,1.25 mm) in concentrations (5, 10, 15 mg/ml) respectively.
