An overview of bamboo cultivation in Southern Italy
Emanuela Lombardo
Abstract
This study examines the development of bamboo cultivation in Europe and especially in Italy. An economic and environmental analysis of two case studies located in Calabria was undertaken, looking at the multiple products that can be obtained from bamboo, notably the production of shoots and carbon sequestration. The results suggest that bamboo cultivation is well-adapted to the Mediterranean climate and has considerable ecological and economic potential.
