Abstract

In order to investigate the viability of using oyster shell (OS) in ocean engineering, the impact of calcination temperature of OS powder on the various properties of eco-friendly waste OS mortar were researched in this paper. Additionally, the OS mortars’ cost-efficiency and eco-efficiency was assessed. According to the experimental findings, the OS mortar follows the same strength development rule as other types of mortars. The mechanical properties, microstructure, water resistance, and chloride diffusion properties of OS mortar might be significantly improved with the addition of OS powder, but its workability would be somewhat diminished. In addition to filling the pore structures of OS mortar, the creation of hydration products was accelerated and the rate of water absorption of OS mortar was decreased as a result of increasing the calcination temperature of OS powder. It was discovered that the impact of temperature on the properties, eco-efficiency and cost-efficiency of mortar weakens as the temperature approached 900°C. Finally, the optimum calcination temperature of OS powder was determined as 950 °C, which the CO2 emission and raw material cost of OS mortar were reduced by 1.8% and 0.69%, respectively, and the eco-efficiency and cost-efficiency are improved to a certain degree.
