Abstract

Natural fibers, especially plant fibers, are drawing attention of researchers more than ever because plant fibers are economical and available as well as environmental friendly. The applications of plant fiber based-composites are increasing day by day in various fields. The synthetic polymers have been polluting environment since a long time and that is why researchers are searching for environmental friendly replacement. The plant based fibers not only add environmental friendly material but also improve mechanical properties in composites. Sometimes, additives or filling agents are introduced with plant fibers before composites fabrication with a hope of properties modification. Some researchers are applying different ionization radiation such as gamma radiation, UV-radiation to improve mechanical properties. In this review, it was tried to represent the effects of plant fiber on the different matrix materials, synthetic polymer, and additives on composites as well as gamma radiation on jute-based composites.
