Abstract

A new biosensor based on nitride semiconductor and superconductor materials has been proposed to measure the glucose concentration in human blood and control the diabetic level. Using the transfer matrix method (TMM), we investigate the transmittance spectrum of binary one-dimensional photonic crystal 1D-(PC) designed as ( a i r / ( A / B ) N / 2 / D / ( A / B ) N / 2 / a i r ) and made of GaN ( A ) , Y B a 2 C u 3 O 7 − x ( B ) , and glucose solution represented by layer ( D ) . The contour and surface plots of different transmittance spectrums displaying some oscillations in permitted zones as well as the photonic band gaps (PBGs) in visible light domain are reported. The shifts to red or blue of these bands are discussed by changing the parameters of the problem such as the widths of layers, the temperature, and the angle of incidence. The behavior of the defective mode created by the presence of glucose concentration was analyzed in terms of different parameters of the problem. It is found that the defective mode shifts to longer wavelengths by increasing the widths of the layers ( d A and d B ) as well as the temperature ( T ) . However, it moves to lower wavelengths by augmenting the angle of incidence ( θ ) . Furthermore, the resonant wavelength, the quality factor ( Q ) and the sensitivity ( S ) of the proposed biosensor were evaluated as a function of the number of periods and glucose concentration. The obtained results indicate that the quality factor of can reach ( Q = 3.82 × 10 5 ) for ( N = 16 ) which constitute a prominent result in various biomedical applications. The proposed biosensor can be useful especially in the identification of glucose level in human blood by selecting the suitable sizes, number of periods N , and angle of incidence.
