Abstract

Summary:
\nBest Practice in Police Social Media Adaptation.
\nThis document describes best practice of European
\npolice forces in adapting social media. The description
\nof these practices stems from a workshop series and
\nother events where police ICT experts met with academics
\nand industry experts; and from a study of the
\nTwitter usage of British police forces during the 2011
\nriots. Grouped in nine categories, we describe different
\nuses and implementation strategies of social media by
\npolice forces. Based on these examples, we show that
\nthere have been numerous ways in which police forces
\nbenefitted from adopting social media, ranging from
\nimproved information for investigations and an improved
\nrelationship with the public to a more efficient
\nuse of resources.
