Abstract

In the present work, poly(2-aminothiazole)/organoclay nanocomposites were synthesized via intercalative in situ oxidative polymerization of 2-aminothiazole using ammonium persulfate as an initiator. A certain kind of co-intercalation of montmorillonite was accomplished by polyhydroxy iron cation and its organophilization using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide surfactant. The objective was to evaluate the influence of the organoclays basal spacing on the structural and morphological properties of the synthesized nanocomposites. The presence of iron in nanocomposite was confirmed by XPS analysis. The resulting nanocomposites were fully characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction.
