Estimation of Tree Volume Using Mask R-CNN based Deep Learning

Abstract
Trees have an important stance in our life and are an important resource for many industries. being such an extensive resource estimating its amount is one of the main motives of the regulatory authorities. Hence biomass is calculated, it is a good measure of estimating plant dominance on site. Tree's volume is an important measure for calculating not only biomass but also timber or fuel wood estimation and carbon storage of trees. To assist taxonomical study, we proposed a method to estimate length and breadth of trees and using that to calculate its volume. In this paper we are calculating tree girth and tree height using Mask R-CNN. Using mask R-CNN we detect the tree and a reference (which can be any white rectangular board) as the dimensions of reference are already known we use these to calculate the girth, height and volume of the tree.
